The Meditation Track a Patient Shared That Quietly Changed My Routine
I didn’t start meditating until 2019. For years, I dismissed it—thinking it clashed with my Catholic upbringing, or maybe I just didn’t “get it.” It felt too abstract, too disconnected from the tangible results I was used to in medicine. But like many things in life and healing, what we resist is often where the greatest transformation lies.
Back then, when I asked patients if they meditated, maybe 10% said yes. Today? Closer to 90% are doing some form of it—even if it’s not daily or perfect.
No one has ever said to me after they meditated: "Oh...that sucked"—just like no one says the same after a great meal, the feeling after a workout, or, well... an orgasm. It’s just human nature.
But, like exercise or healthy eating, meditation can go through cycles. Sometimes, we need to shake things up—try a new approach, a new tool, a fresh perspective.
